www.twitter.com/bigsexymcdonald.
Things have been on the move lately with heading down to Tucson for the month of December. One the way south we
stoped off in Phoenix to watch and help out at IMAZ . If you watched the coverage you would know that I was working with Welshy all day at IMlive and Universal sports.
now we are down in Sunny Tucson and getting back into training again for
the 2010 season ahead.
Marilyn and I have decided this year to spend our southern hemisphere summer in Noosa Australia ,A lot of good friends have made noosa home and we wanted a great little training camp before we embark on the season ahead.
Also a another note we have a couple things in the works .Both Marilyn and I have a couple openings in our coaching service, We both love to work with motivated people that are looking to reach the next level of racing for them.
Also keep you eye out for some new Big sexy / chris-mcdonald.net training kits ( drop me a line if you think you would like one.
you can drop me a line at chris at chris-mcdonald dot net if you are interested in any of the above.
Cheers

Off Season
Hey Gang ,
well it has been a while since I have updated what I have been up to . I have been enjoying my first off season I have had since I started racing pro in 2004 and the small break has given me some time to do a few that I have been putting off.
Also I am not sure if you saw my "MO" from IMAZ last year were I was raising money for prostate cancer research through Movember. Well I am donning the mo again this year , you can donate money at www.movember.com . I will post a photo of it soon but think wolverine meets Merv Hugh's.

End of season
Hi Guys ,
well it has been a long time since I have updated my blog here and I apologise for that . Since IM Wisconsin I have been a busy guy . As you may have realized now I had to skip Hawaii due to some family health problems that I needed to be around for . I then intended on finishing up the season at Ironman Florida in November, Well I have had to pass on racing in Panama city beach also .
I am now taking a little bit of down time and spending time with friends and family . I had set very high standards for myself in 2009 and the early season was playing out all to plan with three wins in the bag before the start of may . the later half off the season was not what I had hoped for with a top 5 finish in Madison and then having to skip Hawaii and Florida , although I have taken a lot from all the races that I competed in.
I will be starting my 2010 season down south again in New Zealand and have those same high expectations for the year.
Thanks to everyone for you support and keep checking back for updates on my base training fun.
Cheers Chris

Ironman wisconsin
Hi Guys
Well another Ironman has come and gone and we now have 29 of them in the bank and I can tell you I am still learning something new every time.
I had travelled to Madison in with great preparation and was looking forward to defending the title . It is such a privilege to wear the #1 in an IM but also bring a BIG fat target with it .
We lined up Sunday morning in a very warm lake monona and I was ready to go . As the canon fired I felt like i was on some you tube clip with kimbo slice I had never been hit so many times in a swim start along with being pull and pushed under it was awesome;-)
A found myself in the second pack and was happy to stay there but I was still being absolutely hammered and there was only about 10 people in our pack now. Half way through the swim I did loose my bright green swim cap and then ....the beating stopped. so now my target on the side of my head was at the bottom of lake monona and I could go about the day ahead.
Having raced in Madison 3 time before i knew that just about everyone would take the bike out way to hard and was was just excited to get out on the course and chase down the leaders. we ended up catching the Raynard around half way through the bike and had everyone i wanted in check , Raynard did drop off the bike pack to start but managed to claw back on around 30 kms later. so now we were down from around 12 in the group to 4 as I rolled up the helix and into T2 with the fastest bike split of the day.
I had bike about as easy as I ever have in an IM and was excited to see what the run had in store for me , as we ran out onto the streets of Madison I took the lead but had a young German pretty keen on tracking me down , we did end up running shoulder to shoulder but I just knew the pace was to hot and let him go . a good 8 miles had rolled by now and i was holding 2nd place and gaining again on 1st . as we approached the 12 mile mark I regained the lead . So now my thought were about just trying to control the pace and hold of a resurgent Tisnink . I was very happy with how things were coming along and then mile 15 comes up and apparently the road had turned to quicksand except I was the only one who fell in. the next 4 miles were misery!
Iike I said you learn something new every time and I now know that running 2:50 pace on a course were the run course record in 2:56 in not a good idea :-) I contemplated calling it a day many times but just jogged it in after those 4 miles of walk/jog/walk and held onto 5th place.
you always learn something from the races were things go wrong .
Next up Kona.

Hi Guys ,
Well the lead up to Ironman Wisconsin has flown by but I could not be happier with how things have come along since challenge Roth .
I have been based back in boulder CO for the entire build towards the race in Madison and put in some great training. This past weekend I had my final hit out before the race at the Windsor Olympic distance triathlon . A cool rainy day greeted us race morning but nothing to miserable .
I had a solid swim to come out of the water in 2nd place roughly 30 sec down . Once onto the bike I went about the job at hand and managed to take the lead at around the 15km and then push hard to build a lead of around 1 min on the chaser Eric bell , I took the extra time to put on a pair of socks in transition.... with IM only two weeks away I really didn't want any blisters .
I held the lead through about the 4-5km mark when eventual winner Eric came up on me. I even tried blocking the path with the wing span to stop the pass :-)
I finished it up in 2nd place and was very happy with how the body felt after the last block of Ironman training .
Now I look forward to a nice easy two weeks into Madison for the next Ironman.
thanks for all your support

Nutrition
Hi guys ,
I just wanted to write down a couple little things about my race nutrition . For those of you who may not know I have been using a Product this year called Cera Sport and Cera EX1 . CeraSport is a rice based electrolyte hydration drink , that was developed in conjuction with the doctors at John Hopkins university . The drink is made up of a blend of short, medium and long chain carbohydrates. The rice-base carbs work fast but continue to give you energy longer than most other sugary based drinks. When I used other sports drinks previously I had some slight stomach problems however since I started using Cera things have been great.
Now that being said I raced in Roth with all my nutrition on my bike and things were looking great until I nailed a pot hole and my bottle popped out of the frame cage . Now I would have turned and picked it up had I not also run over it in the process, watching it explode all over the road . So now I was left with two options...go 800 calories short or make it up with Gels from the course . Needless to say I choose the second option.
So now I had a gut full of just about pure sugar and was having to take on an over the top amount of water to try to get things digested . I am not sure on the exact science of how things work with this, but I do know I ended up having to visit the porto several times throughout the run for the first time in 29 Ironmans.
If I had the scenario all over again I would put a duplicate of my race nutrition in special needs ..... Just in case :-)
I would recommend to everyone to try some the Cera Sport or the Cera EX1 , just click on the cerasport link from my homepage and tell them Chris sent ya !
